Moore Performance Racing
Mid-Continent Motorsports debuted this 2008 season with a new Pro-Fuel Harley.  The team was extremely pleased with Moore’s performance his first weekend jockeying the heavier, fuel-injected bike with a 13-inch tire.  When racing in the left lane, fans were initially concerned that he had difficulty keeping the bike off the wall.   However, they were likewise impressed with the 98-pound rider when he made the field, and took out first-place qualifier, Randal Andras, during the first round of eliminations.  Both bikes in the next round struggled to the finish.  Doug Horne, no. 2 plate-holder, developed mechanical problems and slowed his pace, allowing Moore to win the round with an 8.33.  The final round was a well-deserved win for Rick Casas who finished with a 6.86 to Moore’s respectable 6.98 (his quickest pass to date).

The last-minute decision to enter Moore into the Pro-Dragster class certainly paid off.  Team owner, Mike Bahnmaier, made a few improvements to the bike over the winter season.  Moore qualified first-place and on race day, made the quickest pass of the class with an E.T. of 7.27 @ 175.78mph.  Unfortunately, he spun the tire in round two, and was out-raced by veteran Willie Herschberger.  According to Moore, “the bike was on a stellar run.  At the eighth mile it was only .004 off the national record.”

NHRA Nitro Harley Champion, Tommy Grimes, qualified 11th place amongst 20 top-fuel bikes attempting to make the field.  It was during third round qualifying that Grimes had his best time (6.90 @203.3mph) of the weekend on Mid-Continent’s Top-Fuel machine.  Grimes’ ended his day short when he smoked the tire during first round eliminations.

Chuck Jones also entered the weekend’s events on a Mid-Continent Pro-Dragster.  Chuck proved to be a serious threat to the field by qualifying number 3 with an E.T of 7.49 @ 173.41mph.  Unfortunately, Jones suffered mechanical difficulties which prevented him from moving past first-round eliminations.

AHDRA’s reigning Pro-Drag Champion couldn’t get enough of Gainesville Raceway.  Rick Moore showcased his talent this past weekend, while competing in not one…not two…but three different Pro classes!

Although he was qualified third-place with Banky Racing’s Pro-Gas Harley, his competitors will admit he was the luckiest rider on race day.  Moore’s opponents in the first two rounds were either “no-show” or “broke”; and he took the win when respected rider, Dale Raudenbush, dashed to the finish line before getting the green light.  “Despite these series of unfortunate events, the most consistent bike in the field still won the race,” says Rick Moore.  Team owner, Bob Banky would like to thank sponsor Wallace Landscaping.
