Moore Performance Racing
Rick Moore
Moore spent the night with family, and Saturday they went to the track to be a part of his big day.  Mom packed a cooler and played hostess – making sure that they were hydrated and well-nourished.  This was her first-time seeing her youngest son on the larger pro fuel bike – and she was in awe.   “I shouldn’t be surprised.  Rick does well on any bike he rides.  He looks so natural on that pro-dragster.”  Moore’s brothers (Brad and Doug), and future sister-in-law (Beth), were equally impressed.  But the real treat was meeting Aaron Nottestad’s best friends, Randy & Kathy Bradford.  The day was filled with reminiscences, and Moore was inspired to hear about the antique motorcycles which can be found at the museum in Witchita, KS.

It took only one round of qualifying for Mid-Continent to secure the #1 and #2 positions with the pair of pro-dragsters.  Moore qualified first-place with a pass at 7.48, while Jones qualified #2 with his pass of 7.61.  Moore went on to secure his best qualifying position yet (#4) on the pro-fuel bike, with an E.T. of 7.26.   Unfortunately, the Banky Team fought electrical glitches all weekend, but did well with a 4th place qualifying position at an E.T. of 8.275.

Despite the heat, even Moore family and friends showed up at the track on Sunday.  In fact – it was Angel, Wayne, and Logan’s first time ever seeing an event.  First round of pro-fuel eliminations was against Andy Baumbach, but the team had lane choice and was optimistic.  The bike was unable to fire at the line, so Baumbach broke the beam to advance.   Banky Racing’s pro-gas bike was again paired up with Karen Wagner.  The electrical system continued to be problematic, and their 8.82 wasn’t up to the challenge.  Then there was good ol’ reliable – Mid-Continent’s championship pro-dragster.  First round eliminations was won by breaking the beam since Darrell Rice checked-in broke.  The final round was a bitter-sweet win against friends, Curly Jim and Kim Fontaine.  Moore ran a 7.82 @ 172 mph – getting the team, family, and friends to pose for a memorable photo in victory circle.

Special thanks to:
Mike and Jody for providing the equipment and means to contend for another championship season;
Phil Mell for crewing this weekend on the pro-fuel bike, and Dave Larson for his work on the pro-dragster;
Bob & Ed Banky for a great pro gas bike; Tommy and Jimmy for crewing;
Riki, Emily, and the entire family – for all your love and support.

Moore dedicated this win to the team’s mechanic, friend – Aaron Nottestad.  He will always be remembered.

Moore Wins with Family & Friends
On June 28 & 29th, the Northeast Nationals were Presented by Horne Concrete Construction & Structural Concrete at the Cecil County Dragway - Rising Sun, MD.

This was like Christmas for Rick Moore, since the race was only an hour away from home – and his entire family and friends were planning to be in attendance.  It all started earlier in the week when the Bahnmaier’s camped-out in Moore’s backyard.  They rebuilt the pro-dragster motor in the home garage – then made special trips to Precision Chassis to weld the wheelie bars and coil bracket, and then to Chris Mell’s Motorcycle Restoration to repair the dragster’s fairing.

Friday morning, Bahnmaier headed to the track where he met Grimes and Robbins; and Moore headed to the airport for the crew.  Unfortunately, the team was disappointed to learn that Chuck Jones (second place pro-dragster) was going to be delayed in Florida, due to weather.
